31 Dec Arise Mouhssin Ismail OBE – Founding Principal of Newham Collegiate Receives An OBE In King Charles III First New Year Honours For 2023
Mouhssin Ismail was the founding Principal of Newham Collegiate Sixth Form Centre (The NCS) in East Ham, London. Over our first 8 years of service to the brightest students in Newham and the surrounding London boroughs, he worked tirelessly to establish a centre of excellence whose sole cause was to raise the aspirations and life chances of the young in our community.
In the Autumn of this year he moved on to continue his work in this area in the North of England with STAR academies, but we are delighted to share the news that his work with us at The NCS has been recognised by the highest office. Mouhssin is amongst the first to have been awarded a 2023 New Year Honour by King Charles III for services to education.
On news of this honour, Mouhssin said:
I’m grateful, privileged and honoured to be awarded an OBE for services to education in the New Year Honours List. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all my wonderful colleagues who over the years have dedicated themselves to the social mobility cause and demonstrated commitment to serving our talented young people. This tops off another fantastic year for The NCS; judged by Ofsted to be ‘Outstanding’ in all categories, record Russell Group University places and our best-ever A-Level results.
Everyone at The NCS welcomes this wonderful recognition of Mouhssin’s work in our community. The ethos, values and culture he instilled at Newham Collegiate have established us as one of the best sixth forms in London for student outcomes and have been carried forward both with our Acting Principal Anita Lomax and the students we guide every day.
What is an OBE?
Standing for Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, an OBE is the second highest ranking Order of the British Empire award (excluding a knighthood/damehood), behind CBE but ahead of MBE.
The OBE is awarded to individuals who have made major contributions at a local level, or whose work has gained a national profile.
