Our ALPS grade of 1 confirms the high quality teaching, support, care and guidance that takes place at the NCS.
What is value-added in education?
Whilst our headline figures and exam results are impressive, we think that a better measure of the quality of an academic sixth form and one that parents/students can rely on is value added.
Value added data compares how students with the same or similar GCSE grades on entry, perform at A-Level. This data is prepared by an independent company called Alps.
Alps measure student and school progress, or value added, across national data and benchmarks. It’s highly respected within the educational community, as a marker of performance that can help students and schools to achieve more.
Their grading tool is based on a thermometer, letting teachers know at a glance how their students, class and school are performing. Split across nine sections representing a score which also represents a benchmark set against national performance.
Our ALPS score is 1, meaning that The NCS is in the top 1% of all UK schools for value added performance.
This means the students who enrol at The NCS get higher grades at A-Level than 99% of all other schools in the country, with the same GCSE grades on entry
