Student Bursary
16 to 19 Bursary Fund
The 16 to 19 Bursary Fund supports students by covering some of the financial costs of coming to the sixth form such as travel, equipment and trips/visits.
There are two types of bursaries available:
- A vulnerable bursary of up to £1,200 a year for young people in one of the defined vulnerable groups.
- A discretionary bursary that institutions may award to meet individual needs.
Who is eligible for the Bursary Fund?
You may be eligible if you fit into the following groups:
- Group 1 – Students in care, care leavers, students receiving Income Support or Universal Credit and disabled students in receipt of Employment Support Allowance who are also in receipt of Disability Living Allowance or Personal Independence payments. You are eligible for the maximum bursary of £1200.
- Group 2 – If your total household income is below £35,000 and you need financial help but do not qualify for a bursary for students in vulnerable groups.

Deadline
You are strongly advised to apply as soon as you start your course. Deadline for 16 to 19 Bursary is 25th September 2026. Payments cannot be backdated for periods before the application was submitted.
