Preparing For The Russell Group on Day One
The very first day of student induction at Newham Collegiate will see the preparation for a successful Russell Group application begin. We provide critical thinking workshops and industry masterclasses to start to help you find your career path and prepare your mindset for high level academia.
Our Holistiic A-Level Education is Key
Throughout your first year you’ll take part in sessions to build your soft skills, have support from your expert teachers who’ll teach your curriculum to the highest of standards, and enjoy The NCS Super Curriculum which will give you experience of higher education academic material. This is all designed to push and challenge your thinking.
Take part in the Emerging Talent Programme and benefit from the expertise you’ll find in our Professional Schools. These will provide you with first-hand experience in careers and industries, as well as improve your knowledge, confidence, and soft skills.
Undergraduate Mentors to Guide Your Journey
Students from UCL and LSE regularly visit The NCS to meet and mentor our students throughout the application process. They also take part in training and preparation for key entrance examinations such as the BMAT and UCAT. You’ll also have the opportunity to spend time at Russell Group universities at workshops, open days, and lectures.
Supporting Your UCAS Application
The UCAS application process launches with a day at our strategic partner UCL. You’ll learn more about making a stand out application and life as a student at a Russell Group university. Breakout sessions will focus on specific subject areas and will be led by professors and current UCL students, many of whom also started their journey at The NCS. The support continues with your teachers over the following weeks to help you form the perfect personal statements and ensure you have everything you need to complete your application.
All of these experiences will help shape and mould you into the best version of yourself to present in your university applications.
What if want to aim higher than the Russell Group?
Many of our students do want to aim higher than a Russell Group university. Oxbridge courses are a very popular choice amongst our cohort and an increasing number want to apply to universities in the Ivy League. For some students a route directly into industry via vocational school leavers programmes is the correct choice. Whatever path you decide is the best for you to take, we’ll support and guide your applications.
