NCS students are joining the ranks of the nation’s elite with our best ever A-Level results!
On Monday 20th September 2021, Newham Collegiate students had the opportunity to hear directly from Labour MP Kate Green as part of our Lecture Programme.
Kate Green currently serves as Shadow Secretary of State for Education. She spoke about how she found her way into politics and detailed how the function of politics is about making difficult decisions. After discussing several current and past issues to explain the process of making those choices as a political party, she then spent nearly an hour taking questions from and discussing issues with our students. This was a wonderful opportunity to learn about the current state of politics in the UK, as well as discover how the official opposition functions from someone at the heart of the team today.
"The talk with Kate Green allowed us to look beyond the campaigns and arguments we see on the news and into the real substance of being a politician and the difficult decisions they have to make in their role. This kind of insight is powerful and demonstrates how deeply politics can permeate our lives, reminding us that behind the slogans there is important work being done, work that we all should engage with."

What was most surprising for me was her approach to our questions, in which she never neglected the opposing argument - I think this especially helped my critical thinking skills, which is very important in my subjects."
