A-Level Results 2024 - Amazing Student Outcomes
A-Level Results 2024 - Amazing Student Outcomes
Newham Collegiate Sixth Form Centre.
One of the best sixth forms in London for student outcomes.
As we enter our second decade and prepare to welcome our tenth cohort in September, this year’s NCS students will go on to study at the world’s best Ivy League and Russell Group universities – including Harvard (USA), Princeton (USA), Oxford, Cambridge, UCL, LSE, Imperial and King’s College London – ready and focussed to join some of the brightest minds around the world.
Two years ago, our students embarked on an academic journey at Newham Collegiate. Today, we’re thrilled to announce their outstanding A-Level results for 2024, which stand shoulder to shoulder with some of the UK’s most renowned independent and grammar schools.
“There is a real sense that the school is replicating many of the outstanding features of a private school education, providing its students with opportunities that would not necessarily be available in a normal state school.”
Good Schools Guide on The NCS
Our commitment to excellence is evident in our consistent performance. This year, our students achieved 96% A*-B and 100% A*-C.
For the ninth consecutive year, ALPS has ranked Newham Collegiate in the Top 1% of all state schools in the UK, including grammar schools, based on student progress. This signifies that NCS students outperform their peers in 99% of other schools, given the same GCSE grades upon entry.
We’re also proud of our students’ achievements beyond A-levels. This year, we witnessed a record number of offers from Ivy League universities, Oxbridge, as well as courses in Medicine and Dentistry. A remarkable 95% of students received offers from Russell Group Universities. Furthermore, 15 students have also secured high-profile degree apprenticeships with leading companies such as KPMG, Deloitte, Amazon, AstraZeneca, and Dyson, providing them with unique internships, training, and grants to cover further education costs.
On this year’s results, NCS Principal Anita Lomax commented, “Congratulations to our Sixth Form students at the NCS on achieving another set of exceptional A Level results. The NCS continues to build on its tradition of securing outstanding outcomes for our students who progress to elite universities in the UK and Ivy League Universities in the USA studying a wide range of courses including Medicine, Dentistry, Engineering, Computer Science, Law, History and Philosophy. Today we celebrate their achievements and the exciting futures that lie before them. I would like to thank the dedicated staff at the NCS who work tirelessly to support students; without their dedication and commitment, these results would not be possible.”

Celebrating our first ten years...
When we enrolled our first cohort in 2014, we were guided by our vision as educators to inspire our students to go on to do what inspires them with a holistic education that is formed by a mix of academic enrichment, soft skills development and relevant and purposeful work placements.
Ten years on that vision remains a key foundation of daily life at Newham Collegiate and is now fully realised with alumni knowing their careers are making a real difference to everyday society.

Student and Alumni Stories
Alina was unsure which subject to study at university
The NCS helped her find her path and secure an offer from Oxford
Alina found the support of our professional programmes, specialist schools and the dedication of her teachers exceeded her already high expectations. This led her to choose to study Biology, a course she’ll now pursue at the University of Oxford.
Alina chose The NCS because of its focus on student development and the genuine care from its teachers. With interests in both medicine and law, she found herself uncertain which was the right choice for her to pursue at university.
The personalised support at The NCS was the key to helping her find clarity. From sector experiences with The NCS Med School and Law School, through to conversations with teachers, our guidance led Alina to decide that biology was the right choice for her further studies. Our Elite University Preparation programme, with its mock interviews and supervision sessions, was crucial to her successful Oxford application.
“Studying here, you realise the dedication of the teachers and the quality of teaching truly reflect what you see on social media.” She advises prospective students to ensure their sixth form aligns with their goals and passions, as The NCS did for her.
Darnell took a leap of faith and joined our first cohort in 2014
The NCS helped him build a foundation for a successful career in finance
Darnell was the second student to enrol at The NCS on a summery August morning in 2014. He was taking a ‘leap of faith’ in joining a new and unproven sixth form built on a promise and vision. He then applied all the lessons and skills he gained with us and made another leap into the world of finance where he now has a thriving career in the City of London’s investment banking sector. Ten years on, he reflects on how The NCS vision was realised and shares his advice with the students following in his footsteps.
When The NCS opened its doors to students ten years ago, Darnell was literally one of the first to walk through them. As the second ever student to enrol, he joined having just received his GCSE results from Lister Community School. As you’ll see in our video catch up, we filmed him at that exact moment to discover what he expected. With no track record to back the promises we made to our students, he decided to take a leap of faith, hoping we’d prepare him for a career in finance.
Two years later, after collecting his A-Level results he took another leap into the then unconventional path of joining a school leaver programme instead of going to university. This 12-month program provided hands-on experience, leading to a permanent role in investment operations in London.
The NCS played a crucial role in solidifying Darnell’s journey into adulthood. He emphasises the importance of students learning from The NCS, not just academically but holistically, “The journey doesn’t just start and end with NCS. Use it as a stepping stone to achieve what you set out to achieve.”
Aliya was looking for a sixth form with academic rigour
She found The NCS would be the best environment to thrive
Inspired by The NCS’ reputation for academic rigour and excellence, Aliya decided to study her A-Levels with us and found the freedom to explore which area of biology interested her the most. The NCS Med School guided her towards a choice of clinical medicine.
Aliya knew she wanted to study at Oxbridge even before she joined The NCS. At the time she was keen to become a doctor and The NCS Med School provided her with the ability to speak to professionals working in the sector, as well as gain knowledge from a wide range of experiences. It was her time spent in an Oxbridge research centre that led her to decide that clinical medicine was the more interesting area for her future career aspirations.
The teachers at The NCS provided Aliya with invaluable support, offering insights into various degrees she could take. “The staff were really friendly and understanding,” Aliya recalls. Our Elite University Preparation, including mock interviews and supervisions, and unique learning environment helped Aliya develop critical thinking skills and gain the confidence to achieve her goals. It all played a crucial role in her successful Cambridge application.
Samiya learned how to be in a professional environment at The NCS.
She’s now training with one of the biggest law firms in the world.
Having joined us from Sarah Bonnell with strong GCSE grades, Samiya became our first ever head girl and went on to secure exceptional A-Level grades. She chose to join our first cohort of students in 2014, specifically for the professional skills tutoring that we provide. She loves how we tailor enrichment to each individual’s strengths and desired destinations.
During her time at The NCS Samiya enjoyed workshops at a wide variety of corporate law firms, eventually securing a space on our all expenses paid international work experience with White & Case LLP. After impressing senior associates and partners during the trip, Samiya subsequently secured a training contract with the firm in London. Having completed her solicitor legal practice course (LPC), she’s now joined White & Case on a training contract. “It’s really rare to find teachers and individuals who are so invested in you. They make sure that they follow up with you [to see] how you’re doing. I am truly, truly grateful for my experiences at The NCS.”

Amelia always had a passion for engineering
The NCS Engineering School developed this into a more creative pursuit
Amelia knew she could achieve given the right environment. That’s why she chose The NCS after discovering an atmosphere of academic minds and passionate teachers at a taster day. Our Engineering School introduced to her the idea of “fluidity”, the space to explore and find the right path for her future. It was a road that led her to a more creative choice at the University of Cambridge.
After attending our summer taster day, Amelia discovered that The NCS was a sixth form with an ambitious environment, which she knew was the perfect place for inspiring students like her. She loved the passion the teachers had for the subjects they were teaching. When she enrolled, she was set on diving into all the opportunities The NCS Engineering School would provide. It was here she found a flexible approach to nurturing the right path for her future studies and career.
“NCS has definitely benefited me in more ways than one. It almost feels like the world is opened up,” Amelia reflects. The NCS environment and support system enabled her to find her true passion, a more creative field that combines both architecture and engineering.
She’ll now be studying design at the University of Cambridge, inspired by the students in whose footsteps she follows. “The school has done it so many times before and that changes your mindset, “ she says. Seeing alumni succeed at top universities inspired her to believe in her potential.
Ten years ago Kiesha loved maths and economics
The NCS helped her transform that into a career in finance
Kiesha knew she had a passion for maths and economics when she was among the first students to join The NCS in 2014. Unsure where that could lead her, The NCS provided a transformative experience that led her on a path towards LSE and a successful career in the financial sector, where she now works in the heart of London’s Docklands. Ten years on we caught up with her to discover more about her journey after The NCS and learn just how important the skills she learned with us are now.
Now working as a debt structurer in the shadow of London’s famous Canary Wharf, Kiesha’s career journey began ten years ago when she became one of the first students to study at The NCS. At the time, she spoke of her love for maths and economics and considered a career in finance. The NCS arranged work experiences for her, including one at KPMG, which enhanced her knowledge of the corporate world.
Kiesha recalls how the teachers were always there to support her, “The teachers at NCS always believed in me, even when I didn’t believe in myself.” This belief and support were key to her development, instilling a discipline and drive for excellence that she carries with her today in her professional life.
Ten years on it’s clear to see just how much Kiesha gained from our newly opened sixth form. As you can see in the video, the Kiesha of 2014 was still in the process of gaining confidence, and when armed with our vision, she went on to university with the personal and academic growth that our holistic education aims to provide students with for future successes.
Tuba sought somewhere to help her navigate future options
At The NCS she’s found confidence to achieve a dream
Tuba was inspired to join The NCS by a GCSE teacher who saw her potential and knew a supportive environment would not only help her achieve but also help her gain the confidence to pursue a dream of studying medicine at Queen Mary University.
“By speaking to teachers and being surrounded by passionate and ambitious people, it made me think that yes, I can do it,” Tuba reflects. This change in mindset also helped her become more confident and driven in pursuing her dream of studying medicine.
Before reaching this point, Tuba had benefited from the many aspects that form our Emerging Talent Programme to help her determine which career was right for her. It was then that the tailored and expert support of our NCS Med School and student-led Med Society provided her with not only the resources she needed but also a supportive community. Our passionate teaching staff provided Tuba with a unique learning experience that fully prepared her for her A-Level exams.
“From the person I was 2 years ago, I’d say I have a lot more confidence. I wouldn’t be the person I am today if I didn’t come to NCS.”
At The NCS Lukenny learned the value of focus, hard work and resilience.
He’s carried that into university & work in the NHS during the pandemic.
Lukenny earned A* A* A* at A-Levels and is now studying Medicine at Imperial College London. During the pandemic he’s also been working in the NHS which, despite being challenging, has shown him the rewarding nature of his chosen field.
Staff at The NCS took Lukenny under their wings and taught him how to gain the best from the opportunities presented to him and how to focus and work hard to achieve his goals. More than the academics and enrichment provided as part of The NCS Med School, it’s this quality of the teachers and the relationships he forged that he speaks most fondly of. “Whilst I had a lot of tribulations at The NCS, it was also one of those things where I would never ever take it back. I learned so much at The NCS. So much more than just books. So much about life. So much of knowing to stick through the tough times. That atmosphere taught me to never give in to the challenges. I would definitely recommend it to any students that want to go far.”
Yahya switched from physics to politics in Year 13
Supportive NCS teachers led him to academic success
Yahya’s A-Level journey hasn’t been straightforward. After finding academic interests outside of the sciences in his first year, he decided to move his university focus from physics to PPE (Philosophy, Politics, and Economics). NCS teachers supported a Year 13 switch to studying government and politics to help him achieve his realigned dream.
When choosing his sixth form, Yahya was looking for an environment that would keep him busy and challenged. After hearing from friends who’d previously studied here, he knew The NCS would be the right place for him. He joined two years ago, focusing on maths and sciences, with a set aim to study physics at university.
After embracing the extra curricular opportunities offered to him in Year 12, he discovered that he couldn’t see himself committing to three years of university study in this area and that he actually had a deeper passion for areas that encompassed critical thinking and evaluation. At The NCS he was able to share this and then supported in changing his academic priorities, which would see him studying a two-year politics course in just one.
Yahya notes that advice and guidance was always available for him, describing The NCS as a community of talented and ambitious individuals, supported by teachers and an environment that maximises their potential. “To me, The NCS represents a group of highly talented individuals who are also very ambitious, with teachers and an environment around them to support and maximize their potential.”
The NCS Engineering School helped Shayaan find his speciality.
He’s now working on important construction projects.
Shayaan achieved A* A* A* in his A-Levels. He’s now studying at Imperial College London and is focussing on Civil Engineering.
All of the extra-curricular activities The NCS Engineering School provided Shayaan with gave him a unique insight into all the different fields of engineering that he could enter into. But it was meeting those currently leading the field of civil engineering via NCS arranged lectures and workshops that helped him realise that’s where his true passion lies. “The NCS has changed my life, it’s changed all of my friends’ lives. At NCS you’re pushed to the highest level within your own capability. When you go to university, they’re not used to schools of this calibre. So you’re landing whilst running, you get a head start from other students.”
Zakariyah wasn’t sure what he wanted to do after A-Levels
At The NCS his explorations led to big dreams and personal growth
From uncertainty to a love for computer science, Zakariyah has soaked up all the opportunities and lessons afforded to him by The NCS. Outside of his academics, the personal development from our polish and etiquette classes, as well as the Emerging Talent Programme, has led to a newfound aim to dream big.
Zakariyah joined The NCS because he felt we would support turning his dreams into realities. His personal growth has been so significant that, upon reflection, he says, “Now that I’ve come to the end of my time at The NCS, I know that I dreamed too small … There really is no limit to what I can do.”
Alongside his supportive teachers, he particularly mentions how much he personally benefited from the mentors NCS arranges for students and how they can advise in taking university applications to a more competitive level. Having benefited from all the opportunities and experiences The NCS provides, he is now academically set to study computer science at the Kings College London.
Tafsia always knew she wanted to go into STEM.
She’s now graduated from MIT in America.
At The NCS Tafsia quickly learned that if you put in the work, there’s nothing to limit your ambition. At MIT in America – the world’s greatest university – she learned how to change the world via science, technology and maths.
Tafsia joined us from Sarah Bonnell and achieved A* / A* / A* / A* / A at A-Level. She went on to study Material Science and Engineering at MIT in America, graduating in 2020. She has since worked on research at Beyond Meat in LA and now is working at a technology company in London as well as providing personal tutoring within STEM. She recently returned to The NCS to teach a coding course with fellow NCS/MIT graduate Isuf.
The NCS provided Tafsia with all the support she needed to achieve her goal of attending an Ivy League university. Her message of positivity and not being afraid to compete to get the best for yourself reverberates around the walls of our buildings, leaving many students now looking to emulate her successes. “The NCS gave me everything I wanted in a college experience. It helped me through my A-Levels so much. The teachers are amazing. I miss it! But yes, I would absolutely 100% recommend it.”
